The city of Beja in the Alentejo

The city of Beja, far from the more touristy towns, offers a unique opportunity to explore a city rich in history and culture. Located in the south of Portugal, in the Alentejo, the town is known for its ancient Roman ruins, medieval architecture and incredible peace and tranquillity.

It’s a city known for its hospitality and quality of life, or it wouldn’t be located in the Alentejo. With one of the most hospitable people ever.

Gastronomy is another of the city’s attractions. Who can resist a good plate of Alentejo food? From dishes with migas, cheeses, sausages and local wines.

The city has roots that take us back to Roman times. Beja, at the time known as “Pax Julia”, was an important city in Roman times. Some ancient ruins can still be seen in the city.

Also known for its medieval architecture, the Torre de Menagem and the Castelo de Beja are points in the city that offer incredible views over the city.

Beja Castle, the Rainha Dona Leonor Museum, Santo Amaro Church and Praça da República are some of the points of interest in the Alentejo city.

If you want to get away from the big cities and are looking for peace and quiet, this is a city you should visit and enjoy all the wonders it has to offer.
