In the town of Redondo, in the heart of the Alentejo, the Clay Museum was born in 2009. Dedicated space with its own specialized equipment that promotes and defends Redondo’s traditional pottery.
It was created to bear witness to the instrument’s unquestionable importance in the preservation and revitalization of Redondo’s traditional pottery. With recognition that goes beyond borders and that collects great praise.
The Clay Museum shows visitors the history of pottery in Redondo. It also allows visitors to see and buy a variety of pieces made from clay.
It also offers a recreational and educational aspect with the aim of making young people aware of the county’s most important traditions. In this area of training, the Museu do Barro works to develop a close relationship with the school community, where it takes on the educational service as one of its main valences.
Visitors to the museum can also tour the municipality’s nine potteries, where they can observe and experience all the pottery work up close, and perhaps develop their own creations.
