Founded in 2007 by businessman Rui Nabeiro, also known as the founder of the Delta Cafés Group, Adega Mayor is a prestigious winery located in the Campo Maior region, in the heart of the Alentejo.
The estate covers more than 350 hectares of cork oak forests and agricultural fields.
Adega Mayor’s architecture is one of its most distinctive features. The building was designed by the famous Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, and its shape was inspired by the contours of wine barrels.
From the top of the panoramic terrace, you can see the vineyard, the Herdade’s olive grove, Spain and the Serra de Portalegre.
Adega Mayor, known for growing vines on schist and granite soils, benefits from the Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters.
These conditions allow the cultivation of a wide variety of grape varieties: Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Alicante Bouschet. As well as the international grape varieties Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wines produced at Adega Mayor are renowned for their excellent quality. Where they combine traditional and modern techniques in their winemaking, allowing the characteristics of their grapes to be expressed in the wines they produce.
As well as producing wines, Adega Mayor also stands out for its wine tourism. Visitors have the opportunity to visit the vineyards, the winery facilities and learn more about the winemaking process. With guided tours and wine tastings, visitors can explore the culture and history of Alentejo wine.
Recognized nationally and internationally, it has received numerous awards and distinctions. Whether for the quality of its wines or for its important role in the development of wine tourism in the Alentejo region.
