The district of Portalegre is located in the central interior of Portugal. It is bordered to the north by the district of Castelo Branco, to the east by Spain, to the south by the district of Évora and to the west by the district of Santarém.
It is the 6th largest district in Portugal and is subdivided into 15 concelhos:

The summer months are very hot in the city, and the winter months are very cold with frequent frosts. There is always a high probability of sub-zero temperatures, and it often even snows in the Serra de São Mamede.
Portalegre is a city with a lot of history, so you can’t miss out on visiting some of the city’s most important landmarks.
Like the historic city center, where you’ll find the elegant Praça da República and the Baroque Palaces, Accioli and Avillez. You can also find the Church of the Convent of São Francisco.
You can also cross the Portas de Alegrete and go to the medieval castle.
On the city’s doorstep you’ll find the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. There you’ll find wonderful hiking trails and some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Alentejo.
Another place you can find is the Pico da Serra de São Mamede viewpoint. The highest point in mainland Portugal south of the River Tagus. From the viewpoint you can also see the towns of Castelo de Vide and Marvão, as well as the Serra da Estrela and Serra da Gardunha.
