Manjar Real

Today we share the recipe for the Alentejo convent sweet Manjar Real, a typical sweet from the Mourão region in Alentejo.

Ingredients:

  • 500g grated almonds
  • 500g hard Alentejo bread
  • 6 yolks
  • 1200g sugar
  • 1 large glass of water

Preparation:

In a pan, place the water and sugar. Leave it on low heat and keep stirring until it reaches a fine point.

Remove from the heat and then add the grated almonds and the previously soaked bread. Put it back on the fire and keep stirring until it reaches the point of curdling.

Remove from heat and add the 6 egg yolks. Stir the whole mixture well.

Return to low heat and let it thicken until it reaches a creamy consistency.

Serve in a deep dish, with sliced almonds on top.
