Between May 17 and 19, 2024, the city of Beja will host another edition of the Beja Romana event. This is an event organized by the Municipality of Beja. The aim is to allow visitors to relive the Pax Julia era, when this was considered one of the most important cities in Roman Lusitania.
For three days, the historic city center will relive the grandeur and grandeur of Pax Julia. The Roman Forum, where the two Roman temples are identified, is located in the Piazza della Repubblica.
What it offers:
Visitors can find the streets of the historic city center decorated with Roman elements. These include columns, statues and mosaics, characters dressed and armed in period costumes, who interact with the general public.
The markets, which were part of daily life in the towns at the time, will also be part of this festival. Visitors will have the chance to meet merchants selling products based on or inspired by those that existed at the time. And even try some recreated dishes, based on the food available at that time.
The parades are another highlight of the festival, as they travel through the historic center with a great display of what Roman times were like. You can also watch reenactments of Roman battles, legionary parades and other important activities of the time. These are moments that are available to any visitor.
Workshops such as ceramics, metalwork, cooking and construction will also be available for anyone who wants to try their hand.
This is a Beja Romana event prepared for the school community but open to the population and visitors. For the content it promotes, for the dynamics it develops in the educational field and also for the experience it offers visitors.
